How admission works

Turkish citizens, and foreign nationals who finished secondary school in Türkiye, are placed by ÖSYM through the national YKS exam: they list up to 24 programmes and are placed by their YKS score (for the 2026 intake the exam was on 20–21 June 2026 and preferences were taken from 29 July; ÖSYM had not yet announced the 2027 dates on 20 October 2026). Foreign nationals who finished secondary school abroad, including EU citizens, do not take part in YKS: they apply directly to each university within its quota for students from abroad, with the result of ÖSYM's TR-YÖS exam, a national school-leaving exam, an international exam (SAT, IB, A levels and others) or the university's own exam, as each university decides. Each university publishes its own application periods for the autumn 2027 intake, usually in spring and summer 2027; programmes taught in English require proof of English or a preparatory year.

Tuition fees in Turkey

At public universities an EU student typically pays €899 a year, and a student from outside the EU €899 a year. All amounts are per year in euros; fees charged per credit or per semester are converted to a full year (60 ECTS credits or two semesters).

Where the fee depends on family income, the typical figure is the full fee and the range starts at the lowest one.

Good to know about fees

• Türkiye: State universities charge Turkish citizens no tuition fee for regular daytime study within the normal length of the programme in 2026/27 (Presidential Decision 11625 of 14 August 2026). International students admitted from abroad, including EU citizens, pay a fee set by each state university (by law at least twice the student's share of the cost of study), shown per programme where the university has published it, in Turkish lira or US dollars. Foundation (private) universities set their own fees: the full annual fee for 2026/27 published in YÖK Atlas is shown for Turkish students (many places are offered through YKS with 25%, 50% or full scholarships), and the fee for international students where the university has published one.
