How admission works
You apply online directly to each institution; Luxembourg has no national admission exam or portal. The University of Luxembourg requires a secondary school-leaving diploma (foreign diplomas, the IB and A-levels need an equivalence from the Luxembourg Ministry of Education) and proof of the required level in every teaching language of the programme; it selects on the application file, and some programmes such as law and medicine have limited places. For the 2027/28 intake applications open on 1 February 2027; in 2026 non-EU applicants without a Luxembourg residence permit had to apply by 24 March, while EU applicants had programme deadlines between late April and mid-July. The private institutions LUNEX and the Luxembourg School of Business admit students through their own tests or interviews.

Tuition fees in Luxembourg
At public universities an EU student typically pays €800 a year, and a student from outside the EU €800 a year. All amounts are per year in euros; fees charged per credit or per semester are converted to a full year (60 ECTS credits or two semesters).
| EU students, typical | EU students, range | Non-EU students, typical | Non-EU students, range | Programmes with a published fee | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Public universities | €800 | €800 | €800 | €800 | 27 of 27 |
| Private universities | €9,900 | €9,000–€12,500 | €9,900 | €9,000–€14,300 | 6 of 6 |
Where the fee depends on family income, the typical figure is the full fee and the range starts at the lowest one.
Good to know about fees
- Lëtzebuerg: The University of Luxembourg charges no separate tuition for international students: every student pays a registration fee of €400 per semester in 2026/27, plus a €100 application fee that is deducted from the first semester. Non-EU students must also join the Luxembourg social security system for health insurance. The private institutions charge the same fee to EU and most non-EU students: LUNEX €9,000–10,788 a year depending on the programme, and the Luxembourg School of Business €12,500 a year (€14,300 for students who need a visa) for the January 2027 intake.
