Bachelor's in English in Luxembourg: What Is Really in English
Fee figures: catalogue of 6 October 2026.
In our catalogue every one of the 33 Luxembourg bachelor programmes lists English among its teaching languages (33 of 33). That figure needs a caution. At the University of Luxembourg, English often appears next to French and German because the programme is multilingual, and you are expected to follow classes and prove your level in all of those languages. Only a few programmes are taught in English alone.
Programmes taught in English only
According to the catalogue, these run in English:
- Bachelor in Computer Science at the University of Luxembourg. The programme page says the main language is English, with a small component in French or German. It asks for a B2 certificate in English, and no certificate for French or German, although B1 is recommended.
- Bachelor en Enseignement Musical at the University of Luxembourg, listed in English in the catalogue. Check the programme page for any audition or extra requirement.
- Five bachelor programmes at LUNEX in Differdange: Physiotherapy, Osteopathy, Sport and Exercise Science, International Sport Management, and Nutrition, Fitness and Health. The LUNEX physiotherapy page asks for a university entrance qualification and English at B2, and the other pages may differ.
- Bachelor in International Business at the Luxembourg School of Business, a three-year programme with a semester abroad, an internship and a choice of Finance, Entrepreneurship or Marketing.
Programmes in English and French
The Bachelor in Physics combines English and French. Its page asks for English at B2 and French at B1. The Bachelor in Business Administration is listed in French and English, with B2 required in both on the page we saw, a capture from autumn 2025, so confirm the current level. Several other programmes, such as Life Sciences, Mathematics and Applied Information Technology, pair French with English.
The more multilingual programmes in law, education, psychology, engineering and medicine ask for French and German too. The Bachelor en Médecine lists German at C1, French at C1 and English at B2, and its selection is based on school grades with no entry exam. English alone is not enough for these.
Language proof at the University of Luxembourg
The university requires a certificate for every teaching language, at the level shown on the programme page, by the application deadline. It accepts:
- English tests: TOEFL iBT, TOEFL Essentials, IELTS Academic (test centre and online), and Cambridge exams from B1 Preliminary to C2 Proficiency, including the business versions;
- French tests: TCF, DELF, DALF and TEF Études, which counts only with its oral expression test;
- German tests: Goethe-Zertifikat, Goethe-Test PRO, TestDaF and UNIcert Deutsch.
A certificate counts only if it is less than 2 years old, tests all four skills, reaches the required level, and can be verified on the issuer's platform. The university says tests not on its list, such as Duolingo, are not accepted. A secondary school certificate can also serve as proof when the main language of instruction matches the programme language: the certificate must be less than 2 years old if it was not issued by the Luxembourg Ministry of Education, and it must come with transcripts of the last three years. If you cannot meet the required level in all teaching languages before the deadline, you are not eligible in that cycle. For the general CEFR scale, see CEFR levels for university.
How the private schools work
LUNEX accepts applications at any time of the year and starts programmes in April and October. After the online application, candidates attend an application day, and based on the test the school either admits them or places them in a pre-bachelor foundation programme that builds academic skills and English. Fees at LUNEX start at €9,000 a year.
The Luxembourg School of Business takes September and January intakes. Its application asks for proof of English proficiency and includes an online interview, and the school quotes €12,500 a year for students who do not need a visa. The cost guide has the full comparison.
