How admission works in North Macedonia

Each public university publishes its own enrolment call (konkurs) once the Government has fixed the number of first-year places (for 2026/27: decision of 14 July 2026, Official Gazette 160/2026), and you apply directly to the university; the first call comes in summer and further rounds run until October. Candidates are ranked by points: secondary-school grades (60%) and State Matura results (40%), with extra aptitude tests for some programmes (arts, sport, medicine and others). Foreign applicants are enrolled outside the quotas, must have their secondary-school certificate recognised (nostrification) and prove knowledge of the language of the programme (several universities run a preparatory Macedonian or English year). Private universities publish their own calls. The 2026/27 calls appeared between April and September 2026; the calls for 2027/28 are expected to follow the same pattern.
