How admission works
Applications for full-time undergraduate courses go through UCAS (up to five choices on one application). Each university makes offers on the basis of grades, usually stated in A levels or UCAS Tariff points, assesses international qualifications itself, and some courses add interviews, admissions tests or portfolios. For entry in autumn 2027 the deadlines are 15 October 2026 for Oxford, Cambridge and most medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses and 13 January 2027 (equal consideration date) for most other courses; applications received by 30 June 2027 are still sent to universities, and Clearing opens on 2 July 2027. Applicants from outside the UK and Ireland, including most EU citizens, normally need a Student visa, and many universities accept international applications later in the year.

Students from England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and since 2021/22 also from Ireland, pay a rest-of-UK fee of up to £9,790 a year in 2026/27. Since Brexit most EU students pay the international fee set by each university, shown per programme where it is published; EU citizens with settled or pre-settled status living in Scotland may get home fee status. Students from outside the EU pay the international fee.
- Wales / Cymru: In 2026/27 universities in Wales may charge home (UK) students up to £9,790 a year (Welsh Government fee limit). Since Brexit most EU students pay the international fee set by each university, shown per programme where it is published; Irish citizens and EU citizens with settled or pre-settled status usually pay the home fee. Students from outside the EU pay the international fee.
- Northern Ireland: In 2026/27 students from Northern Ireland pay up to £4,985 a year at universities in Northern Ireland; Irish citizens normally pay the same, while students from England, Scotland and Wales pay a higher fee set by the university.
