How admission works

You apply through the national admissions service run by the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR): antagning.se in Swedish or universityadmissions.se in English, with all your choices ranked in one application. You need a completed upper-secondary education with proof of English (and of Swedish for Swedish-taught programmes); many programmes add specific subject requirements, and foreign diplomas are assessed by the admissions service. When there are more eligible applicants than places, places go mainly by upper-secondary grades (merit rating, selection group BI, maximum 22.5) and by the Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test (högskoleprovet); the scores shown are the lowest admitted BI score in the second selection. For the autumn 2027 intake the international round (mainly English-taught programmes) is open from 16 October 2026 to 15 January 2027, and the national round (all programmes taught in Swedish) from 15 March to 15 April 2027.

Tuition fees in Sweden

At public universities an EU student typically pays no tuition fee, and a student from outside the EU €12,608 a year. All amounts are per year in euros; fees charged per credit or per semester are converted to a full year (60 ECTS credits or two semesters).

Where the fee depends on family income, the typical figure is the full fee and the range starts at the lowest one.

Good to know about fees

• Sverige: Citizens of the EU/EEA and Switzerland (and holders of certain Swedish residence permits) pay no tuition fees for first-cycle programmes, under Ordinance 2010:543; private institutions with state funding, such as Chalmers, Jönköping University and the Stockholm School of Economics, also charge them nothing. Other students pay the fee set by each institution for each programme, shown here per semester as the first instalment for the autumn 2026 intake published on universityadmissions.se; fees for later years can be slightly higher. Non-EU applicants also pay a one-off application fee of SEK 900.
