How admission works

You apply to each programme separately; from September 2026 applications go through the Ministry of Education's central electronic application system (linked from portalvs.sk). The basic requirement is a complete secondary education with a school-leaving exam; a foreign secondary diploma must be recognised by a Slovak regional school office (Czech diplomas count automatically), and you can be admitted on condition that you show it by enrolment day. Each faculty sets its own selection — an entrance exam, or admission on school or maturita results — and there are no national cut-off scores. For the 2027/28 intake most deadlines fall between the end of February and the end of April 2027, while art schools close in November–December 2026.

Tuition fees in Slovakia

At public universities an EU student typically pays no tuition fee, and a student from outside the EU €2,000 a year on a programme taught in English (most other programmes are free for them too). All amounts are per year in euros; fees charged per credit or per semester are converted to a full year (60 ECTS credits or two semesters).

Where the fee depends on family income, the typical figure is the full fee and the range starts at the lowest one.

Good to know about fees

• Slovensko: Full-time study in Slovak at public universities is free for everyone, whatever their citizenship, for the standard length of the programme (Act 300/2025, § 96); fees apply only for exceeding that length, for a second programme at the same time, and for part-time study. Programmes taught only in a foreign language may be charged by the university: in 2026/27 the fees run from €1,000 to €5,500 a year for most English-taught bachelor's programmes and €10,000–14,500 for medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine, while some universities teach in English for free. Programmes in Hungarian (a national minority language) are free. Private institutions set their own fees for everyone, about €800–3,400 a year, sometimes higher for non-EU students.
