How admission works
There is no national application portal: you apply online to each institution through its own recruitment system (often called IRK), under rules its senate adopts by 30 June of the year before the intake (for October 2027: by 30 June 2026), including its own dates. By law, admission to bachelor's and long-cycle programmes is based on matura results (applicants are ranked by the subjects each institution chooses); entrance exams are allowed only to test artistic talent, physical fitness or specific aptitudes. School-leaving certificates from EU, OECD and EFTA countries and IB/EB diplomas are recognised for admission without further formalities, while other certificates need a recognition statement from NAWA (SYRENA system). EU citizens apply on the same terms as Poles; each institution sets the language requirement (Polish for Polish-taught programmes, English for English-taught ones) and the rules for applicants from abroad.

Tuition fees in Poland
At public universities an EU student typically pays no tuition fee, and a student from outside the EU €2,288 a year. All amounts are per year in euros; fees charged per credit or per semester are converted to a full year (60 ECTS credits or two semesters).
| EU students, typical | EU students, range | Non-EU students, typical | Non-EU students, range | Programmes with a published fee | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Public universities | €0 | €0–€22,000 | €2,288 | €0–€32,702 | 3,768 of 3,816 |
| Private universities | €1,762 | €0–€17,390 | €1,844 | €796–€17,390 | 927 of 1,135 |
Where the fee depends on family income, the typical figure is the full fee and the range starts at the lowest one.
Good to know about fees
- Polska: At public institutions full-time study in Polish is free for Polish citizens and for citizens of the EU, EEA and Switzerland; by law it is also free for holders of the Karta Polaka, permanent residents and holders of a Polish language certificate at level C1 or higher. Other non-EU students pay the fee each institution sets for foreigners, shown per programme where it is published. Public institutions may charge everyone, including Poles and EU citizens, for programmes taught in a foreign language, such as the English-taught medicine programmes. Private institutions set their own fees for everyone.
Language of instruction
