How admission works in Greece

Places in Greek-taught programmes at public universities are filled through the national Panhellenic exams (Πανελλαδικές Εξετάσεις) run by the Ministry of Education: Greek lyceum candidates submit an application in November–December (for 2026 entry: 28 November–22 December 2025), sit the exams in May–June and then list their chosen departments; places go by points (up to 20,000 from four exam subjects, up to 24,000 where special subjects such as a foreign language or drawing also count) and a minimum entry threshold applies. The score shown is that of the last candidate admitted in the general 90% quota of day general lyceums (ΓΕΛ). Graduates of foreign schools who are not of Greek origin, from non-EU lyceums or from EU schools, apply in a separate ministry category without exams, ranked by their school-leaving grade (in 2026 the online application was open 2–9 July), and need a Greek language certificate to enrol; the ministry announces the dates for the autumn 2027 intake. English-taught programmes take applications directly at each university.
