Study Medicine in English in Greece: Athens, Thessaloniki, Larisa, Patras and Crete

Fee figures: catalogue of 6 October 2026.

Five Greek public universities teach the Medical Degree in English to international students: Athens, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaly (Larisa), Patras and Crete. Each runs its own admissions outside the ministry's national system, and each charges tuition. In our catalogue, English-taught Medicine in Greece costs from €12,000 to €17,000 a year, typically €12,000, for EU and non-EU students alike. All five programmes are six years (360 ECTS).

Who can apply

The English programmes are for international applicants. Athens, Thessaly, Patras and Crete describe their eligible applicants as foreign citizens who completed at least the last two years of secondary school outside Greece. Thessaly also admits graduates of recognised foreign schools operating legally in Greece. Athens adds a category for holders of a bachelor's degree in a related field, with a minimum overall grade of 65%.

Tests and preparation

If a test is part of the route, it covers school-level Biology and Chemistry, not medicine. Indicative material is published for the Aristotle test. If you hold A-levels, MediTest-EU or BMAT, check the exemption lists before paying for a sitting. See IB diploma: university admission in Greece for IB-specific points.

Greek-taught Medicine

The seven Greek-taught Medicine programmes are free of tuition, but they require entry through the Panhellenic exams or the ministry's foreign-graduate route, and Greek at B2. In the 2026 general quota, the last admitted student scored 18350 to 18900 points out of 20,000. Foreign graduates are ranked separately. See how to get into a university in Greece.

Visa, cost and recognition

Non-EU students need a type D visa and a residence permit; see student visa for Greece. Pay attention to deposit and refund rules in case your visa is refused. Our pages do not cover recognition of a Greek degree in your home country, so check the licensing rules there before you enrol.
