Cost of Studying in Greece: Free Public Degrees and English-Taught Fees
Fee figures: catalogue of 6 October 2026.
Tuition in Greece depends on one question: do you study in Greek or in English? Greek-taught bachelor's programmes at public universities are free. English-taught programmes charge fees that each university sets. Our catalogue shows 19 English-taught programmes with fees from €4,500 to €17,000 a year, typically €7,000, and the amounts are the same for EU and non-EU students.
Greek-taught programmes: no tuition
The Ministry of Education's Study in Greece portal says Greek-taught undergraduate programmes are offered for free, and its programme finder lists each of them as free, with no distinction by nationality. The Greek Constitution describes public higher education as free of charge, and Eurydice reports that students receive textbooks free of charge.
There is one caveat for non-EU students. Law 5094/2024 lets each university admit non-EU students to Greek-language programmes outside the normal admission routes for a fee linked to the total cost of studies. We found no university that has published such a fee, but the rule exists, so check the department before you plan around zero. How admission works is explained in how to get into a university in Greece.
Free tuition does not cover living costs, and you must be able to study in Greek, so budget for a Greek language certificate and possibly language courses.
