How admission works

Hungarian-taught programmes are applied for through E-felvételi on felvi.hu, the national admissions system of the Educational Authority (Oktatási Hivatal): up to six choices, three of them free of charge, and for the September 2027 intake the deadline is 15 February 2027. Applicants are ranked by points (maximum 500) calculated from school grades and the results of the secondary-school leaving exam (érettségi), plus extra points; foreign school-leaving certificates are recognised and converted into points by the Educational Authority. Each year the official minimum scores (ponthatár) are published separately for state-funded and self-financed places. English- and German-taught programmes for international students, including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, are mostly applied for directly at the university, which runs its own entrance exam and sets its own deadlines.

Tuition fees in Hungary

At public universities an EU student typically pays €2,064 a year, and a student from outside the EU €5,200 a year. All amounts are per year in euros; fees charged per credit or per semester are converted to a full year (60 ECTS credits or two semesters).

Where the fee depends on family income, the typical figure is the full fee and the range starts at the lowest one.

Good to know about fees

• Magyarország: Most Hungarian-taught programmes offer state-funded places (magyar állami ösztöndíj) with no tuition fee, and citizens of Hungary and of other EU/EEA countries and Switzerland may compete for them on equal terms; holders must graduate within one and a half times the standard length of study and later work in Hungary for as long as they studied on the scholarship, or repay part of it. Because a state-funded place depends on your points, the fees shown here for Hungarian-taught programmes are the 2026/27 self-financed (önköltséges) fees that each institution published on felvi.hu, usually per semester in forints. Non-EU citizens can study only on a self-financed basis; English- and German-taught programmes for international students have their own fees, often in euros or US dollars, shown where the university publishes them. Church and private institutions also set their own fees.
