Transferring to the University of San Marino: Credits, Year Entry and Single Courses
Fee figures: catalogue of 6 October 2026.
If you have already started a degree somewhere else, the University of the Republic of San Marino (UNIRSM) can recognise some of your credits and, if enough are accepted, let you join a later year. The rules below come from the university's page on transfers and shortened careers and from the 2026/27 admission notices. They apply to the bachelor's degrees in our catalogue.
The two main routes
The university's page distinguishes:
- Transfer (trasferimento): you leave another university and continue the same studies, or similar ones, at UNIRSM. You ask the student office of your current university for the transfer, enrol at UNIRSM by the enrolment deadline using the online desk, fill in the university's transfer and shortened-career form and attach it at the end of the online procedure.
- Shortened career (abbreviazione di carriera): you ask for earlier university credits to be recognised so that your path at UNIRSM is shortened. The page does not define the term further. You enrol online by the enrolment deadline, complete the same form and attach it.
The page also has a heading for a change of course within the university (passaggio di corso), with its own rules per degree. Check it if that is your case.
The deadline that matters
The university states that credit recognition requests for earlier studies must be submitted by the deadline for enrolment in your chosen degree, using the form attached to the page. A request that arrives later should not be assumed to be valid.
Limited-places degrees add a step
For Design and for Communication and Digital Media, you must still pre-register in the available windows and pass the admission test, even if you are transferring. Transfer does not skip selection. See admission tests for Design and Communication. The notices for 2026/27 add that if you have earned university credits, you can submit a career evaluation request. You email the Student Office, naming the degree and your name in the subject line. Attach the certificate of exams passed showing the credits. The Design notice says a self-declaration is not enough. The request must arrive by the pre-registration deadline of the round you apply in, and you provide the rest of the documents later.
Entering the second or third year
For the bachelor's degrees on the page, it gives the same rule: direct admission to the second year is allowed only if at least 40 credits are recognised, and to the third year only with at least 100 credits. With fewer recognised credits you cannot be admitted directly to those years. The page does not describe how the credits you do have are counted in that case, so ask the Student Office to confirm in writing.
The notices also warn that discrepancies between the information you give at admission and the leave sheet from your previous university may lead to a revision of the recognition. Make sure the documents agree.
Studies partly done abroad
If you are enrolling on a foreign secondary diploma with part of your university studies abroad, attach certificates of each exam passed with official documents describing the programme of each. See document recognition for San Marino.
Recognition once you are enrolled
From 2026/27 enrolled students can apply online, through the Esse3 desk, for credit recognition of work internships, of the English assessment for those holding a language certificate, and of extracurricular activities. The university has a tutorial. Curricular internships are managed on the same platform.
Single courses
If you want to study without enrolling in a whole degree, the university offers single courses. They are aimed mainly at graduates and holders of a university qualification who want to deepen specific subjects. For 2026/27 you email your application with an identity document and your qualification, from 15 September 2026 to 15 February 2027. The contribution is €300 per single course at bachelor's level and €400 at master's level. You gain student status, can take the exams for the activities you enrol in and receive a certificate of the credits earned. Single courses do not lead to a degree.
