UNIRSM Admission Tests: Design Drawing Test and Communication Interview

Fee figures: catalogue of 6 October 2026.

Two of the 5 bachelor's degrees in our catalogue at the University of the Republic of San Marino (UNIRSM) select students instead of admitting everyone: Design, with 120 places, and Communication and Digital Media, with 60 places. Both use an admission process built around an interview. This guide describes the 2026/27 process from the rector's decrees, which are the official rules. Dates and details change every year, so read the current notice before you plan.

The structure

For both degrees you must:

  1. pre-register online and pay €50
  2. upload your identity document (front and back)
  3. take the admission test on the day you are called
  4. enrol, if you are ranked among the places, and pay the first instalment of the fee

You are given a pre-registration number, and rankings and interview schedules use that number, not your name. If you do not take part, or are not ranked high enough, you can apply again in a later round, but you pay the pre-registration fee again and take the test again. The detailed rules on enrolment are in how to get into the University of San Marino.

Design: drawing test and interview

Design (classe L-4, Industrial design in the Italian system) has 120 places for 2026/27. The test has two parts held on the same day at the Antico Monastero Santa Chiara in San Marino Città:

Candidates identify themselves at 09:00 with a valid ID and the payment receipt. During the drawing test you may not communicate with other candidates or consult books, notes or digital sources. The notice suggests reading at least one of three books by Bruno Munari and Alberto Bassi.

The total is 100 points: up to 40 for the drawing test and up to 60 for the interview. The minimum to be eligible is 25 out of 100. The drawing is judged 50% on coherence with the theme and conceptualisation, 20% on ability to represent graphically and 30% on personal interpretation.

Communication and Digital Media: course, English and interview

This degree (classe L-20, Communication sciences) has 60 places. The test is an interview at the Department of Human Sciences, Viale Onofri 87, San Marino Città. It can take place online on Microsoft Teams, but only if you send a motivated request to the Student Office at least two working days before. You arrive an hour early to be identified.

Before the interview you must prepare two things:

The interview checks your interest and aptitude for communication and digital media, whether you really did the MOOC (with targeted questions about its content), and your level of English. The total is 100 points: up to 20 for the MOOC result, up to 20 for English certificates, and up to 60 for the interview. The minimum to be eligible is 60 out of 100.

Rounds and results

For 2026/27 Design held rounds on 29 April, 15 July and 1 September 2026, with an extraordinary round on 23 September 2026. Communication and Digital Media held rounds on 14 May, 16 July and 10 September 2026. The later rounds are held only if places are left. After each round the rector publishes the ranking with pre-registration numbers, and ranked candidates enrol within a fixed window. If you tie on points, the younger candidate ranks higher.

Language and special needs

Candidates whose mother tongue is not Italian must show adequate Italian in the interview, in both degrees. Students with a disability or specific learning disorder must report it during pre-registration, with a certificate, so that the Inclusion Service can arrange support for the test.
