How to Get Into the University of San Marino: Open and Limited Courses

Fee figures: catalogue of 6 October 2026.

The University of the Republic of San Marino (UNIRSM) is the country's public university, and in our catalogue it has 5 three-year bachelor's programmes, all taught in Italian. How you get in depends on the programme. Three engineering and construction degrees are open to anyone who holds the right school diploma, while Design and Communication and Digital Media select students through an admission test and a fixed number of places.

Two routes in

The university's enrolment page says that for 2026/27 open-access enrolment opened on 13 July 2026, while limited-access degrees use several selection rounds, each followed by an enrolment window.

Who is eligible

For a first-cycle degree you need the final diploma of upper secondary school. A foreign diploma is accepted automatically where San Marino has a recognition agreement with the country that issued it. Otherwise it must be a legalised final secondary title with at least 12 years of schooling, and the university may ask for more documents. See document recognition for San Marino.

How enrolment works

The procedure is always online. You first register on the university's student information system, Esse3, through its online desk, and then complete the enrolment form there. You upload one file per document:

Documents must be in PDF format and the photo in JPG. Name each file with your surname, first name and the content. The university stresses that self-declarations of San Marino school qualifications have no legal value (Law no. 159/2011), so you must supply the certificate.

If you do not yet have the diploma, you can still enrol and email it to the Student Office by the date the university sets. For the limited-places programmes the 2026/27 deadline was 20 September 2026 for Communication and 14 September for Design. For open-access programmes it was 31 October, or 30 November for late enrolment.

Late enrolment and fees at enrolment

For Civil Engineering, the page we checked, the university allows late enrolment from 1 to 30 November 2026, with a late fee of €52 for enrolments from 1 to 15 November and €104 from 16 to 30 November. The first instalment of the tuition is due at enrolment. For limited-places degrees the first instalment (€1,200 for Design and for Communication in 2026/27) must be paid by the enrolment deadline. If you then fail to obtain the school diploma you need, the bandi for both degrees allow a full refund of that payment. See the cost of studying in San Marino.

Pre-registration and the admission round

Pre-registration is compulsory for the limited-places degrees. Each of them charges €50, paid online, and gives you a pre-registration number. For 2026/27 the university held three selection rounds for each degree, with a further extraordinary Design round in September 2026 when places remained. The second and later rounds take place only if places are left over. Dates differ every year and are set in the admission notice, called the bando, which the rector publishes early in the year. The 2026/27 notices are dated February and March 2026.

If you already studied elsewhere

Requests for credit recognition must be submitted by the enrolment deadline using the university's form. For Design, Communication and Digital Media and the engineering degrees, direct entry to the second year requires at least 40 recognised credits and to the third year at least 100. See transfers and credit recognition at UNIRSM.
