Scholarships and Student Jobs in Cyprus for International Students
Fee figures: catalogue of 6 October 2026.
We found no national scholarship scheme open to foreign bachelor's students in Cyprus. Support comes from the universities themselves, mostly as tuition discounts at private institutions. Work rights for non-EU students are tightly regulated.
Scholarships at private universities
Both large private universities publish their rules, and both exclude their medical programmes from most awards.
University of Nicosia (UNIC)
- First-year merit: a percentage reduction on tuition based on your high school leaving certificate grades, assessed by the country that issued it. It lasts one academic year and requires full-time enrolment of 30 ECTS per semester. The page gives no percentages, so ask the Admissions Department.
- Continuing merit: awarded after your first two regular semesters, on cumulative GPA: 50% for 4.00, 20% for 3.75 to 3.99 and 10% for 3.50 to 3.74. It requires full-time study and at least 60 ECTS completed at UNIC.
- Athletic: up to 40% of tuition for active members of university sports teams.
- Family: 15% for the entire programme for families with four or more children, and 10% for each of two or more siblings studying in the same semester.
- On-campus work-study: limited part-time internships paid in tuition reduction.
- If you qualify for several, you receive the highest one. They are not available for distance learning, postgraduate or Medical School programmes, except for the UNIC Academic Family discount.
European University Cyprus (EUC)
- High School Scholarships: 75%, 50% or 25% of first-year tuition for averages of 19 or more, 18 to 18.99 and 17 to 17.99. They are for graduates of Cypriot high schools, so they do not help most international applicants.
- Academic Excellence: for current students, 40% for a GPA of 4.00, 20% for 3.90 to 3.99 and 10% for 3.80 to 3.89, with at least 60 ECTS enrolled in the previous year.
- Alumni: 10% for people who studied at EUC or Cyprus College and their close relatives.
- Athletic: performance based, with no percentage stated.
- Financial aid: for native students only.
- Medicine, dental surgery and veterinary medicine are excluded.
EUC's page does not say whether international students qualify for the awards that name no nationality limit, so ask the Financial Aid Office before you count on one.
Public universities and state grants
At the public universities EU students pay no tuition, so a scholarship matters less. See cost of studying in Cyprus. UNIC also describes a government grant for Cypriot or EU citizens who are permanent residents of Cyprus, in the range of €2,175 to €2,565 for a year of full-time study, with an income ceiling. It is for permanent residents of Cyprus. For general options, see scholarships and financial aid in Europe.
Working while studying: non-EU students
The EU Immigration Portal summarises the rules for students from outside the EU:
- You may work up to 20 hours a week under certain conditions.
- Work is allowed only in listed sectors: domestic activities, waste management, restaurants, recreation centres, cleaning services, wholesale trade and repairs, health and social care, agriculture, animal husbandry, fishery, manufacturing and food delivery.
- The employment contract must be certified by the Department of Labour.
- The page gives no waiting period.
EUC's admission FAQ adds that work is permitted after six months from first entry into Cyprus, that the limit is 38 hours a week during official university holidays, and that violations may lead to fines, criminal prosecution or deportation. Treat the waiting period as institution guidance and confirm it with the Migration Department.
What this means in practice
A 20-hour limit in a restricted list of sectors will not pay for tuition and rent. Plan the budget so that work is a supplement. Show your funds clearly for the visa. See student visa for Cyprus.
