Admission Calendar for Slovenia: Application Rounds and Deadlines
Fee figures: catalogue of 6 October 2026.
Slovenian dates move slightly every year, and the call for the autumn 2027 intake had not been published in October 2026. The 2026/27 cycle shows the pattern: a first application in February and March, results in summer and a second round in late August. In 2026 the call was published on 30 January, so look for the next one on the Ministry's page at about that time. This guide describes the 2026/27 timetable as published by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation and the University of Ljubljana, and the dates for 2027 will differ. For the full admission process, see how to get into a university in Slovenia.

Non-EU citizens
Non-EU citizens apply for places announced separately for foreigners, and each institution sets its own periods. The Ministry's table for 2026/27 shows how much they differ:
| Institution | Application periods |
|---|---|
| University of Ljubljana | First: 18 February to 18 March 2026. Second: 2 and 3 September 2026 |
| University of Maribor | First: 18 February to 18 March 2026. Second: 3 to 4 September 2026 |
| University of Nova Gorica | First: 18 February to 18 March; second: 1 April to 1 July; third: 1 August to 1 September 2026 |
| University of Novo mesto | 1 May to 31 August 2026 |
Three details matter most:
- Ljubljana's second round is narrow. It only takes people with a recognition decision issued in the first period who did not get a place, along with holders of an IB or European Baccalaureate diploma, among a few other groups. If you still need recognition of your school certificate, you are not among the groups the call lists for that round. The University of Ljubljana says the recognition decision comes no later than two months after you submit a complete application.
- Maribor runs separate windows for programmes in English. You apply either in the general non-EU window or in the window for English-taught programmes, not in both.
- Other institutions publish their own dates. The University of Primorska, the New University and the private institutions each have their own, and the University of Primorska sets separate periods for citizens of the Western Balkans.
What to do and when
- Autumn, a year ahead: shortlist programmes, check the language of study and, if you need a certificate in Slovenian or English, book the exam. See CEFR levels for university.
- Winter: collect your school documents. The service asks for certified translations through eVŠ only when it needs them, so know where to get one. See sworn translation of documents.
- Late January: read the new call and the table of application periods for your citizenship.
- February to March: apply on eVŠ. Non-EU applicants should plan on the first period: at Ljubljana, for example, the second round is open only to some groups.
- Spring: answer requests to complete your application through the portal, which are sent to the email address in your application.
- After admission: apply for the visa or residence permit. See student visa for Slovenia.
