Exchange Semester in Andorra: Nomination, Deadlines and Buddy Programme
Fee figures: catalogue of 6 October 2026.
If you want to try Andorra before committing to a whole degree, or your own university offers an exchange there, the Universitat d'Andorra (UdA) takes visiting students for one or more semesters. The route is separate from full-degree admission: your home university nominates you, and the steps the UdA lists for exchange students do not include the access certificate that degree students must obtain. This guide follows the UdA's pages for incoming exchange students.
Who can come
The UdA has signed agreements with universities around the world. Your home university must have a mobility agreement with the UdA, so check that first. The process runs from university to university, not from you to the UdA. The UdA recommends contacting its International Programmes Service before you start.
Deadlines
The UdA sets two deadlines for your home university to submit your nomination:
- Autumn semester (September to January): 31 March
- Spring semester (February to June): 31 October
The steps
- Check the agreement. Confirm that your home university has a signed mobility agreement with the UdA.
- Nomination. Your home university emails the UdA's visiting students address with your details. The UdA confirms acceptance of the nomination to both your university and you.
- Registration. Once the nomination is accepted, you complete the UdA's mobility form for incoming students and send it with the required documents, which include a certified copy of your passport or identity document.
- Enrolment at home. After the UdA accepts your application, you formalise your enrolment at your home university.
- Entry documents. Check what you need to enter Andorra, which is not in the Schengen Area. See the student visa guide.
- Residence permit. You request the permit once you arrive, at the Immigration Service. The requirements are on the Immigration Service page.
- Housing. Look for it as soon as possible.
Housing
The UdA does not have housing for students. It names the common options as monthly hotel stays and shared apartments. You can use temporary accommodation such as a hotel to start the residence permit procedure, and the International Programmes Service can help you find housing. Our catalogue has no student-housing prices for Andorra, so ask the service for current figures.
Language of study
The UdA says some semester-mobility courses are taught in English, including several in nursing, business, computing and education. The education bachelor's also uses French for some courses. The page does not say whether exchange students need Catalan. See Catalan, English and French at the University of Andorra.
Support on arrival
- Orientation: before the academic year starts in early September, the UdA holds an orientation and welcome session for all international students. You meet the academic coordinators, attend information and practical sessions and tour the campus.
- Buddy Programme: a local student acts as your guide in your first months. The mentor helps with academic questions and with daily-life matters such as administrative procedures, transport, leisure, and the Catalan language. Taking part is aimed at exchange and full-degree students alike.
Other short options
International students can also enrol in the virtual courses of the UdA's Aula Lliure. These are selected subjects from university studies, or programmes of more than one subject, that you can take independently without meeting the access requirements of the degree they belong to. They are a way to study without moving to Andorra.
