Student Housing in Liechtenstein: Campus Dormitory, Room Exchange, Rents
Fee figures: catalogue of 6 October 2026.
Liechtenstein is small and rents are high, so finding a room is one of the first things to settle. Unlike many small European universities, the University of Liechtenstein has its own student dormitory on campus. It also runs a room listing service, and it supports students who look for a place in the wider Rhine Valley region. Our catalogue lists no student-housing prices for Liechtenstein, so the figures below come from the university.
The campus dormitory
The dormitory consists of two adjacent three-storey buildings, House A and House B, directly on the campus above Vaduz. According to the university:
- the rooms are singles and twins, and a floor shares a spacious kitchen including a microwave, oven, fridge and freezer, and a lounge area
- you share the bathroom with two to three other students
- each floor has a washing machine and a dryer
- a desk with a lockable drawer is provided, together with curtains, a pillow and bed linen
- for safety reasons you may not use extra heaters, refrigerators, kettles, microwaves or hotplates in your room
- an optional welcome package of dishes and basics costs CHF 60
Prices as of April 2025: a single room costs CHF 620 a month, a twin room CHF 410 per person a month, and a parking space is CHF 40 a month extra. The university's FAQ gives a wider range of CHF 400 to CHF 600 a month for a dormitory room, so treat the exact price as something to confirm when you book. Payment is only required after the booking is completed.
How to book: if you are admitted as a regular or guest student, you receive access to the dormitory's electronic booking system and book a room yourself with a personal access code. Places are limited, and the FAQ recommends applying early. The head of student housing is the contact for questions about housing options.
Private Room Exchange
The university's room exchange publishes rooms and flats from private landlords. Listings go online within one to two working days, are sorted by date and stay for two months. As a student you contact the landlord directly with the details in the listing, and the university advises you to check location, rent, furnishings and house rules.
The Facebook group
The university links to a Facebook group for flatshare seekers. It is a social-media group, not a university listing, so check offers carefully and do not pay before you have seen the place and signed a contract.
The private housing market
If those options fail, the university points to the private market in the Rhine Valley region. It warns that rents in Liechtenstein tend to be higher than in neighbouring areas. Citing the Office of Economic Affairs, it gives average monthly rents of about:
- CHF 896 for a two-room apartment
- CHF 1,200 to CHF 1,450 for fully furnished one- and two-room studios
Start early, because demand peaks at the start of the semester. Budget for extra costs such as heating, water, electricity, internet, waste disposal and parking, and check that the place is near public transport or the university. The university lists regional platforms including ImmoScout24, Homegate and Flatfox. For the monthly budget as a whole, see the cost of studying in Liechtenstein.
Where you may live if you are from outside Europe
The room exchange page makes a point that matters for non-European students: students from outside Europe need a Schengen visa, and if the visa was issued on the basis of your student status in Liechtenstein, you may reside only in Liechtenstein, not in Switzerland, Austria or Germany. So living across the border and commuting is not open to you on that visa. EU and EEA citizens, by contrast, can take up residence in Switzerland or Austria, but the university cannot help with the formalities there. See the student visa guide.
Getting to campus
Take the LIEmobil bus from Feldkirch (Austria), Schaan (Liechtenstein) or Buchs (Switzerland) to the stop Vaduz Ebenholz / Uni. The stop is a few minutes' walk from the campus and the dormitory.
