How admission works in Latvia
Latvia has no single national application portal: you apply to each institution, usually online through its own admission system, and international applicants often through a separate platform (for example DreamApply at the University of Latvia). Applicants with a Latvian school-leaving certificate are ranked by their centralised exam (CE) results, normally in Latvian, a foreign language and mathematics plus subjects set by the programme; a foreign school-leaving certificate must first be assessed by the Academic Information Centre (AIC), and the institution converts its grades for the ranking. State-funded (budget) places go to the best-ranked applicants, and citizens of EU/EEA countries and Switzerland compete for them on equal terms with Latvians. The main admission round is in July, after the CE results are out; each institution publishes its rules for the autumn 2027 intake by 30 November 2026, and English-taught programmes for international applicants usually close earlier.
