How admission works in Romania

There is no national application platform: each university runs its own admission for each programme and must publish the conditions at least six months before the exam. You need a Romanian Bacalaureat or a recognised equivalent; depending on the faculty, applicants are ranked by their Bacalaureat grades (sometimes with school grades) or by an admission exam, for example in medicine, architecture, the arts and sport. EU/EEA and Swiss citizens apply on the same terms as Romanians, while non-EU applicants send their file to the university, which forwards the selected candidates to the Ministry of Education for a letter of acceptance (needed for the study visa); Romanian-taught programmes require Romanian at level B1 or a preparatory year. Admission sessions are usually held in July with a second session in September (as at the University of Bucharest in 2026); for the autumn 2027 intake each university publishes its own calendar, and deadlines for non-EU applicants are usually in spring (for 2026 the University of Bacău accepted non-EU files from 26 January to 15 February).
