How admission works in Cyprus
The two public universities (University of Cyprus, Cyprus University of Technology) fill most first-year places through the Pancyprian Examinations of the Ministry of Education: candidates apply online in early March (2–14 March in 2026), sit the exams in June (8–27 June 2026) and receive their place in July; the 2027 dates for the autumn 2027 intake were not yet published. Holders of foreign school-leaving qualifications (GCE A-levels, IB, other national diplomas) compete for a limited number of places through each public university's own call (University of Cyprus: 2–30 April 2026 for 2026/27), and most public programmes are taught in Greek. Private universities and colleges admit directly with a secondary-school leaving certificate and proof of English (for example IELTS 6.5 or B2 at European University Cyprus) or Greek, usually for autumn and spring intakes. Non-EU students also need a student entry and residence permit, which the institution requests from the Civil Registry and Migration Department.
