How admission works
Applications go through Studyinfo (Opintopolku), the national portal of the Finnish National Agency for Education: in one joint application you can apply to up to six programmes. For studies starting in autumn 2027, programmes taught in English are in the first joint application, 7–21 January 2027, and programmes taught in Finnish or Swedish in the second joint application, 9–23 March 2027; a few programmes have separate applications. Selection is based on Finnish matriculation examination grades (certificate-based selection) and on entrance exams; holders of foreign school diplomas are usually selected through an entrance exam or under criteria set in each programme's admission rules. Applicants from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland pay a €100 application fee.

Tuition fees in Finland
At public universities an EU student typically pays no tuition fee, and a student from outside the EU no tuition fee. All amounts are per year in euros; fees charged per credit or per semester are converted to a full year (60 ECTS credits or two semesters).
| EU students, typical | EU students, range | Non-EU students, typical | Non-EU students, range | Programmes with a published fee | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Public universities | €0 | €0 | €0 | €0–€28,000 | 951 of 951 |
Where the fee depends on family income, the typical figure is the full fee and the range starts at the lowest one.
Good to know about fees
- Suomi / Finland: Programmes taught in Finnish or Swedish are free for all students, including students from outside the EU. Programmes taught in other languages (mostly English) are free for citizens of the EU/EEA and Switzerland and their family members; other students pay a tuition fee set by each institution that must cover at least the cost of the education — it is shown per programme as published by the institution. Holders of an EU Blue Card, a permanent or EU long-term residence permit and certain other residence permits are also exempt, and institutions offer scholarships that reduce the fee. Universities also charge a compulsory student union fee, which is not tuition.
Language of instruction
Finnish: 671 programmes; English: 226 programmes; Swedish: 133 programmes; Italian: 1 programme; German: 1 programme. See all English-taught programmes in Finland.
