Document Recognition for Monaco: CIEN, Diplomas and Translations

Fee figures: catalogue of 6 October 2026.
Monaco has no state university and no single application office, so there is no national procedure to recognise a school diploma before you apply. What exists is a national information centre for foreign qualifications and the document rules of each institution. This guide covers both, and says where official information is missing.
The national centre: CIEN
Monaco's contact point in the ENIC network is the Centre d'Information de l'Éducation Nationale (CIEN), a government body that has been an ENIC member since 2008. According to the ENIC-NARIC portal, it is responsible for recognition of foreign qualifications for further study and employment in Monaco, and it issues statements of comparability. For regulated professions, such as medical and paramedical work, you contact the relevant authority separately.
CIEN's published address is 18 avenue des Castelans, Monaco, and its e-mail is enic-monaco@gouv.mc. We did not find a page with the steps, fee or processing time for a statement of comparability, so ask the centre before you rely on one. No institution's page we read requires such a statement for admission.
What IUM asks for
The International University of Monaco asks for these documents, uploaded online: an ID, transcripts for your last two years of secondary school, the diploma if you have already graduated, a photo and a motivation letter. It does not mention an apostille, a legalisation or a statement of comparability in the page we read. Proof of English is required unless you are a native speaker or studied in English. The page gives no minimum score. IUM's degrees are awarded under authorisation from the Government of the Principality of Monaco, renewed by Ministerial Decree No. 2023-575 of 27 September 2023. If you want to use an IUM degree elsewhere, ask the destination country's recognition body; IUM's accreditation page says nothing about recognition in France. What Pavillon Bosio asks for
The art school is French-language and prepares for French national diplomas (DNA and DNSEP). For the entrance exam you need a baccalaureate or evidence of university studies in France or abroad, and a copy of a valid ID or residence permit. Non-French-speaking candidates need a B2 certificate in French (TCF, DELF or DALF). For direct entry into the second year, the school asks for certified copies of diplomas, certificates for previous years of artistic study, a CV and a portfolio. Documents issued by foreign institutions in another language must be translated by a sworn translator (traducteur assermenté). The equivalence commission also holds a video interview, and non-French speakers sit a written French test.
What IFSI asks for
The nursing school takes bachelor-level applicants through Parcoursup and the school's own enrolment file. Its public page does not list nationality, language or document rules, and the diploma is the French Diplôme d'État. If your school diploma is not French, ask the school (ifsimc@chpg.mc) whether it needs a comparability statement or a French translation.
Practical advice
- Ask each institution, before you pay for translations, whether it needs a sworn translation or accepts a copy in English.
- Keep the original and a certified copy of your diploma: Bosio asks for certified copies.
- If you plan to continue in France after a degree, the question of recognition is a French one; see the French ENIC-NARIC centre through the ENIC-NARIC portal.
