Bachelor's Degrees in English in Czechia: Where They Are and What They Cost
Fee figures: catalogue of 6 October 2026.
Czechia has one of the larger English-taught bachelor's offers in central Europe, and most of it is at public universities. The trade-off is simple and unusual: the same public universities teach in Czech for free, whatever your citizenship, but charge a fee for teaching in English. This guide covers the English side.
How many programmes
Our catalogue lists 201 bachelor's and long-cycle programmes taught in English, out of 1,301 in Czechia. All of them are taught entirely in English. You can browse them on the English-taught list for Czechia.
Where they are
Most English-taught programmes are at public universities. The largest providers in our data are Charles University in Prague, with further faculties in Hradec Králové and Plzeň, and the VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava. Next come the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, the Czech Technical University in Prague, Masaryk University in Brno and Palacký University in Olomouc, followed by Mendel University, the Brno University of Technology, the Prague University of Economics and Business, the Technical University of Liberec and the Veterinary University Brno.
Private universities make up a smaller share. Most of them are in Prague, among them the Anglo-American University and the University of New York in Prague.
By city, Prague has close to half of the programmes. Brno and Ostrava follow, then Olomouc, Hradec Králové, Liberec, Zlín, České Budějovice and Plzeň.
Which subjects
Business administration is the largest group by a wide margin, followed by computer science, engineering (mechanical, electrical and automation, biomedical), economics and finance, and international relations and political science. Natural sciences, mathematics and geology are well represented at the technical and science universities. Czechia is also known for English-taught medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine, taught as long-cycle master's degrees at Charles, Masaryk, Palacký and the veterinary university in Brno.
What it costs
English-taught programmes are paid at public and private universities alike. Each university sets its own fee, sometimes per faculty and sometimes per citizenship.
- Typical fee: €4,097 a year for EU students and €4,253 for non-EU students in our catalogue. At most universities the two are the same; a few, such as the Czech University of Life Sciences, charge non-EU students more.
- Top of the range: €24,250 a year. The most expensive programmes are medicine and dentistry; most other degrees cost far less.
- Cheapest options: some public universities charge only a modest fee for English-taught study, but very low figures can also reflect a fee we could not fully confirm, so check the university's own fee table.
Fees are set in Czech crowns or in euros, so the euro figures move with the exchange rate. Compare all of this with free study in Czech in how much it costs to study in Czechia.
How to apply
You apply to a faculty, not to a university, through its electronic application, and pay an application fee for each one. English-taught programmes usually set their own conditions: an entrance test in English, a subject test, an interview, or admission on school results. Deadlines for an October start fall in winter and spring, and some faculties have a second round.
Your foreign school certificate must be recognised before you enrol; this is called nostrification. Countries with a recognition agreement are exempt. The full route is in how to get into a university in Czechia.
Proof of English
Faculties usually ask for B2, sometimes C1, through IELTS, TOEFL or a Cambridge certificate, or test your English themselves at the entrance exam. See IELTS and TOEFL for European universities.
Do you need Czech?
Not for the degree, but you will feel its absence outside the university. Landlords, offices, doctors and part-time employers mostly use Czech, especially outside Prague. In medicine and the other health degrees, clinical years mean working with Czech-speaking patients, so check how much Czech the curriculum includes.
Czech also changes the price. If you can give a year to learning it, the same public universities teach in Czech for free. Faculties expect about B2; see the Czech language exam CCE.
Non-EU students need a long-term visa or residence permit for study; see the student visa for Czechia.
