How admission works in Malta

You apply directly to each institution: the University of Malta through its online application (open from November for the October intake) and MCAST through its own online portal. The University of Malta requires the Matriculation Certificate (MATSEC: two Advanced-level and three Intermediate-level subjects plus SEC passes) or an equivalent foreign qualification, and many courses add subject requirements; medicine, dentistry and some health courses have a limited number of places. For the October 2026 intake the University of Malta closed applications on 15 September 2026 (1 July 2026 for non-EU applicants who need a visa, 30 January 2026 for medicine with overseas qualifications); dates for October 2027 follow the same pattern and are published on um.edu.mt. Private institutions licensed by the MFHEA admit students on their own terms.
