How admission works in Serbia
Admission is run by each faculty or school itself under an annual call (konkurs) that states the number of budget-funded and self-financing places, the entry requirements, the ranking criteria and the tuition (Higher Education Act, art. 98). You need a completed four-year secondary school; candidates are ranked by points (up to 100) from the secondary-school record and a faculty entrance exam or aptitude test (art. 100) — at the University of Belgrade, for example, up to 40 points for the school record and up to 60 for the entrance exam. Foreign citizens enrol under the same conditions as Serbian citizens as regards previous education, but must know the language of instruction (art. 97); a foreign secondary-school diploma has to be recognised first by the ENIC/NARIC centre of the Ministry of Education, a procedure that takes up to 60 days (studyinserbia.rs). The first round is held in June–July (in 2026 applications at Belgrade faculties were on 19–22 June); a second round follows from late August to mid-September (University of Niš: 1–18 September 2026) and a third one where places remain. Calls for autumn 2027 are expected to follow the same pattern and are published on the institutions' own websites.
