Bachelor's Degrees in English in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Fee figures: catalogue of 6 October 2026.
Most degrees in Bosnia and Herzegovina are taught in Bosnian, Croatian or Serbian, but English-taught programmes exist and are concentrated in a few universities. Our catalogue lists 55 programmes taught in English out of 679 full-time first-cycle programmes in the country.
Where the programmes are
Most English-taught bachelor's programmes in our catalogue are offered by three private universities in Sarajevo: the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), International Burch University and the Sarajevo School of Science and Technology. Public universities offer fewer, but they exist. Our catalogue lists English-taught programmes at the University of Sarajevo, the University of Banja Luka, the University of East Sarajevo and the University of Mostar, and at the Logos Centar college in Mostar.
IUS, for example, lists on its fee page bachelor's programmes in engineering and computing, economics and management, architecture, law, psychology, media and international relations.
Which fields
The English-taught programmes in our catalogue are concentrated in:
- computing, software, artificial intelligence and electrical engineering;
- business, economics, management and tourism;
- political science, international relations, media and psychology;
- architecture, design and film;
- medicine, dentistry and health care.
Choose carefully within a field. Titles are similar, but the length differs: some programmes are 180 ECTS (three years) and others 240 ECTS (four years). The catalogue shows the credits for each one.
Medicine and dentistry in English
Medicine taught in English is offered by several institutions in our catalogue, including the University of Sarajevo (an International Medical Degree Program), the University of Banja Luka, the University of East Sarajevo, the University of Mostar and the Sarajevo School of Science and Technology. IUS also states prices for Medicine and Dental Medicine. These are integrated programmes of 300 to 360 ECTS credits, and they are the most expensive English-taught options. The University of Banja Luka's Faculty of Medicine has an international students' office and publishes information on visas and nostrification in English. For the wider picture, see studying medicine in English in Europe.
What it costs
English-taught programmes in our catalogue cost between €1,534 and €13,200 a year for foreign students, with a typical price around €5,400. IUS publishes its 2026/27 tuition for international bachelor's students at €5,400, €6,000 or €6,600 a year, depending on the programme, and prices Medicine and Dental Medicine separately. Fees at public universities are set in convertible marks and may differ for citizens and foreigners. See how much it costs to study in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
How to apply
Private English-taught universities usually have their own online systems. IUS, for instance, takes applications on its portal: you create an account, fill in the form and upload documents, and if accepted, you are told about the visa and guarantee-letter process. That page dates from the 2020/21 intake, so check the current process on the website.
Public universities use the faculty call and entrance tests described in how to get into a university in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Whichever route you use, your school diploma will need to be recognised; see document recognition for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
English requirements
We did not find a single official rule. Each university sets its own language requirement. Ask the admissions office which certificates they accept; for general advice on tests, see IELTS and TOEFL for European universities.
Do you need a local language?
For an English-taught degree, lectures are in English. Daily life, however, goes on in Bosnian, Croatian or Serbian. Applications to the migration authority, translations of documents and some university services run in the official languages. Documents in a foreign language must be translated into one of them for the residence permit. See student visa for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
